Workshop Description
Flow is an optimal psychological state where we are totally focused on the performance, or task, at hand. When in flow, we extend our skills to meet a high challenge, and we become totally absorbed in the present moment. Flow is enjoyable, and for athletes and coaches’ times in flow are often treasured as being among the best moments in their sport experiences. In this workshop, Sue will help participants to understand flow, through sharing a model to understand how flow occurs, and the characteristics of being in this optimal psychological state. Sue will discuss some key findings from having extensively researched flow in elite athletes, and from her work as a performance psychologist with high performers in many domains. The role of mindfulness as a pathway to flow will be discussed, as well as a mindset that will make flow more likely to be experienced in one’s endeavours.
